Champagne - Chaigny 1er Cru
COMPLEXITY, DEPTH, AND PARCEL-SPECIFIC ELEGANCE
The Chaigny Premier Cru cuvée is a meticulous selection from our family vineyard, sourced exclusively from our plots in the Chigny-les-Roses and Ludes terroirs, in the heart of the Montagne de Reims.
This is an exclusive, limited-production cuvée, conceived as a more complex and refined expression of our craftsmanship. It combines the richness of time, the influence of oak aging, and the precision of our Premier Cru terroirs to deliver a Champagne of character—deep and sophisticated.
BLEND
• 60% 2020 vintage (40% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay)
• 40% 2019 vintage (Chardonnay aged in oak barrels)
The Chardonnay contributes tension, elegance, and mineral freshness, while the Pinot Noir provides structure, depth, and aromatic intensity.
THE PREMIER CRU TERROIR OF THE MONTAGNE DE REIMS
Our vines are located in the villages of Chigny-les-Roses and Ludes, both classified as Premier Cru.
The clay-limestone and chalky subsoil plays a vital role in shaping this cuvée, allowing for:
• great aromatic finesse despite the wines' concentration
• preserved natural freshness, ideal for wines with aging potential
• a balanced and elegant structure
The plots are cultivated with respect for biodiversity; they feature cover cropping and mechanical soil work to preserve soil balance and the unique character of each *lieu-dit* (specific vineyard site). WINEMAKING & AGING
The Chaigny cuvée is crafted using a patient, plot-specific approach:
• Hand-harvesting
• Selection of grapes from several distinct plots
• Vinification in both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels
• A portion of the Chardonnay aged in barrels to add complexity and texture
• Blending following rigorous tasting of the individual batches
• Malolactic fermentation completed
• Extended cellar aging of 55 months *sur lattes* (on the lees in the bottle)
This long aging process, combined with partial vinification in wood, imparts great aromatic depth and rare complexity.
👉 Limited production of approximately 380 bottles, reflecting a highly selective, plot-specific approach.
TASTING NOTES
Appearance
Luminous pale gold with golden highlights; fine, steady effervescence.
Nose
Complex aromas blending white flowers and white-fleshed fruits (vine peach, pear) with notes of brioche and a light toastiness derived from oak aging.
Palate
An elegant, structured attack. Lovely substance with a rich, balanced texture. The wine balances freshness, roundness, and depth. A long, saline finish with subtle pastry notes.
FOOD & CHAMPAGNE PAIRING
Cuvée Chaigny is the ideal accompaniment to:
• Refined gourmet cuisine
• Fine fish in sauce (sea bass, turbot)
• Truffled poultry or poultry in a cream sauce
• Mushroom risottos
• Seared scallops
• Aged hard cheeses
WINEMAKER'S NOTE
« Cuvée Chaigny represents a more intimate vision of our work. It is a selection of vineyard plots and wines chosen for their ability to express both the richness of the terroir and the refinement that comes with time. Aging in oak adds an extra dimension without ever masking the identity of our Premier Cru grapes. »
